Tips for working with Foam Clay
- If you have a particular soft and sticky clay I suggest to let it dry just a little bit and then mix it well or you can add a different type of clay called SOFT Clay. This will take the tackiness out and give the foam the needed support to hold its shape.
- The Secret to a super smooth and wrinkle-free appearance is your palm and the right pressure. When you roll the clay between your palms don’t be afraid to really squish and roll it around. This will ensure all the wrinkles disappear. Then you lessen the pressure and shape it into its final form.
- if you are trying to save money and color your own clay use Gel Food Colors. I find that acrylic colors will mess with the clay’s consistency and will dry it out which makes it impossible to work with.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
Foam Clay Set (pre-colored), or Foam Clay Set + Food coloring, or White Clay
toothpicks
STEP 1: Mix your colors

You will need to color about 70g of white clay (from Bohs). Add 2 drops of leaf green food coloring to your clay. If you have pre-colored green clay do 1:10 ratio (green:white).
STEP 2: Make the Ice Cream Scoops
Take a full hand of clay and knead it well. Prepare your silicone mold with a little bit of vaseline if you feel your clay may stick.

TIP: If you have a hard time getting the clay out you can pop it in the freezer in the mold, just like that and leave it for couple hours or even over night. I like to prepare the day before when I use deep and difficult molds.
For the chocolate chips I used bits of brown polymer clay that I baked according to the package. You don’t have to shape it into a chocolate block, just a flat square is fine. Once its cooled down take your exactor knife and carefully cut it into tiny pieces. Be careful not to cut your fingers.

Smear some green ice cream clay into the dish. It sticks just fine without any glue. Press the chocolate bits into the clay all the way so they so they show up on the glass.

Tip: you can stuff the middle with dried clay, or paper and cover it up with a layer of mint green clay, then add the scoops on top. It lowers the risk of the ice cream collapsing.

Once you added all 3 ice cream scoops, add some more chocolate bits into each of them for the delicious chocolate mint look. Make sure to press them in. The clay will shrink and hold them in. No glue necessary.

STEP 3: Make the Bee
Mix 5g of yellow with 1.3g of white (40mm yellow + 37mm white if you use the sizing guide). I mix in the white to get the clay a little more firm. The pre colored clay is softer than regular white clay.

Form a smooth ball from the yellow mixed clay. Then take some black clay and roll it into thing logs. Flatten them with a rolling pin and add them to the body. Make two of this stripes.

Take a small amount of black clay and shape a tear drop. This will be the stinger. attach to the bees butt.
For the eyes shape two small balls using th sizing guide to keep them equal. Flatten them and attach to the face.

Make tiny balls for the sparkle in the eyes. Take a tiny amount of white clay, shape it into a pill and cut in half. This helps to keep them equal when its too small to measure. Use a needle too to help pick up the tiny balls and to place them easily.

Next add some pink eyeshadow to the cheeks for some blush.

For the wings measure out some white clay and shape two balls. flatten them and attach to the back of the bee.

STEP 4: Finishing details
Add some hot glue on the ice cream for a chocolate sauce drizzle. add some pre made cookies or other charms to decorate the ice cream. Lastly, place the bee on top of the ice cream scoops with a toothpick and a dab of glue.
