Notes for using the measurement chart:
Mix your black clay with a little bit of white to make it a little more firm (if you have the kit you dint need to do this step). If any other of your clay is too soft or sticky add a little white as well. When you see this ~ in front of the measurement you wont need all the clay, just use what you need. When there is a bold “2x” it means you need to measure two times (or how ever many it states) to get the right amount and “1/2″ indicates that you only need half of the measured amount. “Tiny” means it’s just a speck and “handful” is more than the largest mold can fit. When there is multiple of the same parts, it will be indicated with “(2)” and the measurement is for each part individual.
Step 1: The Body

Take 33mm of gingerbread brown clay using your sizing guide and shape it. (Watch my color-mixing video on how to get the perfect shade here). Shape a somewhat flat teardrop.
Stick your pen 3/4 of the way in, making sure to stay in the middle as much as possible.

For the head, you will need 40mm + 33mm of the same brown shade. Shape a flat ball of about a 1.5-inch diameter.

Next, join the head and the body together with 1/2 a toothpick.

For the feet, measure out 19mm of the brown clay and shape them into balls. Attach them to the bottom of the gingerbread girl.
Take 15mm of brown clay for each arm and shape them into teardrops, then attach them to the sides of the body.

To get the realistic baked look, shade the cookie with brown eyeshadow. Start with a lighter brown and be careful not to apply too much. It’s better to start with a little and build your shading up slowly. Use a soft bristle brush and shake off excess each time you apply more.
Step 2: The Frosting and Details

To make the little white wiggle frostings, just take a small amount of white clay and roll out strings. Try to get them 1/16 of an inch thin. Start laying them onto the cookie’s feet and hands in a wave motion and cut off any overhang.

For the headband, leave the string a little thicker, about 1/8 inch, and repeat the same process.

Next, make the bow with red clay. Measure out the middle (12mm) and two loops of 15mm each. Shape them all into balls, then continue shaping the loops into triangles and carve two cuts to imitate the folds of real bows.
Put the parts together, then add the bow to the gingerbread girl’s head.

There are many eyes available from my favorite shop. In this video, I use the 1-inch eyes available here. Place them in the lower half of the face for extra cuteness. They come with a sticky back, so there’s no need to use glue.

To create the mouth and eyebrows, I recommend mixing some white into your black clay. Black clay tends to be extra soft and sometimes sticky. Mixing in the white helps eliminate that. There is no measurable amount—just roll it out super thin and cut it to about 1/2 inch for the mouth and 1/8 inch for the brows.
Use a pointy tool to help you place the mouth and brows.

Next, make the buttons. You can use any color; I used purple. Measure out 9mm of clay for each button and roll them into balls, then flatten them with the end of a pen. It’s best if it is a flat, round surface that is slightly smaller than your buttons. My final button size is slightly over 1/4 inch.

Use a pin tool to create the button holes, then place the buttons onto the belly of the gingerbread girl.
Step 3: Finishing Steps

To securely assemble your gingerbread girl to a pen, you will have to take the pen out and add some super glue. Then, let her dry on her back for 24 hours before flipping her over to the other side. After 3 more days, check if she has fully hardened, then apply a clay acrylic coating such as Mod Podge or Maker Magic.

All done! You can use a different pen or decorate the pen further with clay or paint. Share your creation with us on facebook! Happy Crafting!
