Materials You’ll Need:
This project was originally created as a kit, but the tutorial is shared here so you can recreate the fortune cookies yourself using foam clay and simple tools described below.
This tutorial uses cookie cutters instead of the size guide tool. No recipe needed!
- Foam Clay in 3 different colors
- 3.5 inch round cookie cutter
- Fake Chocolate Sauce (see below for my recipe)
- Fake Sprinkles
- Pens or hot glue sticks: for space holder
- Optional: Acrylic pens for extra detailing
- A flat work surface and some crafting tools (like a rolling pin)
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Start by setting up a clean, flat surface for crafting, Have some wax paper on hand for the dipping and drizzling. Lay out all the materials from the kit, along with any optional tools you’ll be using. Have some vaseline nearby to smooth out any imperfections if needed.
Step 2: Shape the Fortune Cookies
to watch the video, scroll all the way to the bottom

- Take a handful of foam clay and roll it into a ball. About 1/3 of the entire bag.
- Flatten it into a circular shape using your hands then use a rolling pin to get it to about 1/8 of an inch thin.
- Use a 3.5 inch round cookie cutter and cut the foam clay. wiggle it and remove the clay on the outside of the circle
- Lift the circle, if it sticks to the surface use a spatula
- Place the pen, or hot glue stick half way in side the circle then fold it in half sealing the top edges.
- Push your finger gently onto the middle part then bend it into the classic fortune cookie shape.
- Smooth out any rough edges with your fingers using some vaseline.
Pro Tip: Practice a few times to get the shape just right before moving on to the next step!
Step 3: Let Them Dry
Allow the fortune cookies to air-dry for at least 15 minutes before removing the space holder. That will allow you to reuse any them to make more cookies without the opening for the message to collapse. If you have enough space holders to continue crafting, I suggest just leave them inside for the full drying period.
Let the cookies dry for 24h before decorating them. This will ensure you won’t accidentally smush them or close the opening.
Step 4: Decorate with Chocolate Sauce
You can use my mod podge based recipe that uses simple ingredients you probably have on hand!

Here you can be creative and do whatever you like. These are just some suggestions in case you need some inspiration.:
- Dip the cookies in the chocolate sauce
- Add sprinkles while the sauce is still fresh (it dries to the touch in 1-2h)
- Drizzle the chocolate sauce using a popsicle stick or fill it into a piping bag
- Let the sauce dry fully for 24h
Tip 1: make different color sauces and frostings using my mod podge based frosting recipe
Tip 2: use up any left-over to make sprinkles. Just drizzle onto the wax paper

Step 5: Decorate with Acrylic Pens (Optional)

If you want to make your fortune cookies extra special, use acrylic pens to add colorful accents or fun designs like hearts, polka dots, or cute faces.
- Let the paint dry fully before moving on
