WATCH ME MAKE THE GHOST STEP-BY-STEP
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
STEP 1: Prepare The Armature
Crumble up a 12×12 sheet of aluminum foil to shape an armature for your ghost. This will save you from using a lot of foam clay and it helps speed up the drying process.

Keep it thinner than you think. We will cover it two times with clay so it will get much thicker when finished. Aim for 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch thickness and 3-3.5 inches tall of just the aluminum foil and shape it into a sausage. Ensure the armature has a rounded top and a flat bottom so it can stand upright.

Next, cover the armature in clay. There’s no need for a perfectly smooth finish at this stage, as we will cover it up again later. The goal is to make a buffer layer so no aluminum foil will show through at the end.

Roll out white clay to about 1/8 of an inch. This way it folds easily over the aluminum armature.

Drape the clay over, letting it fall down on the sides into four folds. Split those large folds into smaller ones by pushing the middle in, then trim the excess on the bottom. It’s okay if the foam sticks to itself on places you didn’t attend to. Let it be how it will we can work with it. Each ghost will turn out differently.

TIP: Vaseline or bag balm can helps slide over the clay without causing stretch marks.
Use a dotting tool to make the eyes. Then put your ghost to the side while we work on the dog

STEP 2: Shape The Dog
Create the dog’s armature from clay instead of aluminum foil. This is to ensure you can insert the toothpick deep enough to connect it to the ghost. Shape an oval but make sure it has a good hight at least 1 inch and about 1.5 inch long. You can try to create other dog breeds with switching up the size, ears and head shape.

Roll out some additional clay to cover the dog’s body, similar to how you covered the ghost. Try to get it to fold all around the body and then trim off the excess.

Insert a toothpick into the dog’s neck and rear end.

If you encounter a gap, instead of forcing it to close, add more clay and smooth it out with a silicone tool.
TIP: you could also wait until the figure is fully dried and then fill the gap the same way. It will be easier since you won’t be able to squish and misshape your ghost.

Shape the dog’s head like a teardrop. Form the ears like little sausages, and if the clay isn’t too dry, they should stick well. You can use glue if needed.
Use a dotting tool to make the dog’s eyes. Next, join ghost and dog together.

Step 3: Finishing Details
Roll out a small sausage of black clay for the leash. Flatten it, then attach it around the dog’s neck and side. Start at the back of the neck with one end, then wrap it around the neck and attach the other end to one side of the ghost.

Shape the ghost’s arms like little tear drops and attach them to both sides of the body. then smooth out the joints

Finally, add black acrylic paint to the eye holes and draw the ghost’s mouth.

FINISHED!!! Now enjoy your handmade ghost figure for a fraction of what they are going for. Make it your own with other dog breeds or even a cat. Share your creation on social media and tag my page to say hello! I would love to see how it turned out.
